A Brief History: The Royal Ffrench Family of Ireland is one of the most notable noble families in Irish history and goes back to John LE Ffrench in 1278, who was originally Norman and a descendant of a member of the Ffrench Family who went from France to England with William the Conqueror in 1066. The Ffrench Family eventually settled in County Wexford Ireland and became one of the most prominent Tribes of Galway. Ffrench Castle was built in the year 1400 AD and a member of the Ffrench Family became Sovereign of Galway in 1444.
A member of the Ffrench Family came to America in 1671 and settled in Maryland. The family eventually migrated to Kentucky in 1785 and in 1911 Viola A. Ffrench of Sunfish Kentucky, the direct descendent of the Royal Ffrench Family of Ireland, was born. The Heir in the United States and of the Royal Family is US Wings CEO David D. Hack, son of Viola Ffrench. In Ireland, there is still a Lord and Lady Ffrench living at Castle Ffrench, at Ballinamore Bridge in County Galway. A Brief History: The "R & R Jacket" (R & R = rest & recreation, outside of the combat zone) was a popular jacket among servicemen during the Vietnam War. Local tailors would custom make these jackets for servicemen to wear during their "paid vacations" and the jackets featured embroidered back & sleeve designs, typically featuring a map of Indochina and oriental dragons.
Our R & R T-Shirt recreates this classic garment in a high-quality tee. A Brief History: Wake Island (which is actually an atoll consisting of three islands -- Wake, Wilkes and Peale -- surrounding a central lagoon) is situated approx. 2000 nautical miles west of Honolulu and was the setting for a famous WWII battle following the attack on Pearl Harbor. The small garrison of marines, sailors and civilians beat back a vastly superior amphibious assault by Japanese forces, handing the Japanese their first defeat of the war. The island was eventually overrun by the Japanese invaders on December 23rd 1941, but the defenders of Wake Island became an important symbol of American resistance.
A US Wings Exclusive! Our Wake Island T-Shirt honors the men who fought so bravely against such overwhelming odds. The back design features an F4F from VMF-211 flying above the atoll (with the runway clearly visible on the large island) along with the words "We Will Never Forget." The t-shirt is constructed from heavyweight 100% cotton for comfort & durability and features the large Wake Island design silkscreened onto the back and a small US Wings vintage-style logo silkscreened onto the left front chest. Sgt. David Hack (CEO of US Wings), who commissioned this shirt exclusively for US Wings, served on Wake Island's USCG Loran Station for sixteen months in 1958-1959 and is an expert on all matters relating to Wake.
