The 1st Infantry Patch represents the 1st Infantry Division of the United States Army. It was nicknamed “The Big Red One” because of their shoulder patch. The Army also gave them the nickname of “The Fighting First”. The 1st Infantry is the oldest division in the US Army. The First Expeditionary Division, which was later designated the 1st Infantry Division, was constituted on May 24, 1917 in the regular Army.
