The Modern A-2:
The A-2 leather flight jacket is an American military flight jacket. Originally invented and developed for the World War II U.S. Army Air Forces pilots. After a brief period of not issuing jackets to pilots, the modern A-2 was developed and issued. It was said that the popular film, “Top Gun” may have influenced the new A-2. The first Air Force A-2 contract was awarded to Avirex, but all subsequent contracts from 1988 to 1998 were awarded to Neil Cooper USA, now U.S. Wings of Ohio. The modern design differs from the original design in several ways. With a looser fit, made from goatskin in seal brown, side entry pockets, and an inside wallet pockets.

I thought I’d drop you a line just to say that the two jackets have arrived. Fantastic, is all I can say… simply fantastic.
Many thanks also for the US Wings baseball cap and the book and signed photo of SGT Dave Hack. The cap will get a work out. I walk about 4 and a half miles every Sat & Sun morning; so it will be put to good use. And the photo into a respectful frame.
I was a SGT myself and first started as a Leopard Tank crewman in the Aussie Army, changed trades and left the Army after twenty two years service in 2001 as a Chief Clerk of a Light Horse unit. In that time the Army was pretty insulated and the majority of service personnel did not see service overseas. Which is a vast contrast to now.
Dave doesn’t know me, but if you could pass my best regards onto him and thank him for the jackets, I’d be obliged. I’ll let a few of my friends know about them also.

The bison has arrived today!
Details of the jacket are top quality. There is nothing delicate to the heft of the leather.
I liked the fact that the knit to the cuffs and waist are made from 65% nylon, 33% acrylic, and 2% spandex instead of 100% wool…..the moths will hate that……but I think it will outlast the wool.
The bison leather has a rugged complexion….the dark brown color is nice….the jacket weight has a solid feel…..I’m proud to roam the land draped in a genuine bison A-2 flight jacket.
