The 50th Annual I-X Piston Powered Auto-Rama (held on March 18-20, 2016) at the I-X Center in Cleveland OH was the host of the Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemoration in conjunction with the Medina VFW 5137, local Veteran Organizations and three chapters of Rolling Thunder. The event was attended by an estimated 50,000 people and the Vietnam War Commemoration featured guest speakers, static Vietnam-era military vehicle & equipment displays, the “Vietnam Experience” gallery, information booths, and more (there was also a lot of nice automobiles at the show, too). It was also a wonderful opportunity to meet, share stories and bond with fellow Vietnam veterans and many new friends were made over the course of the three day event.

SFC David Hack (CEO of US Wings and a decorated Vietnam vet) was in attendance all three days, as part of the veterans group headed by the Medina VFW. Sgt. Hack was there to not only commemorate the Vietnam War but to also pass out and sign copies of his free book The Life Of A Warrior. The book is based on Sgt. Hack’s life and experiences, including his military career and time spent in Vietnam, and is an uplifting story of a man who faced hardship, tragedy and failure but refused to quit. The book was written with the intent of helping those in need, especially veterans who have many issues to overcome, with its inspiring message of hope and triumph in the face of extreme adversity. Over 100,000 copies of The Life Of A Warrior have been given away since its first printing and another 12,000 were passed out over the three day Commemoration weekend alone.

And the book has helped countless people from around the world. This is perhaps best embodied in an excerpt of a letter Sgt. Hack received from an Iraqi War veteran…
“I read your book over the weekend and enjoyed it… Your book gives me hope about my future. I feel down a lot and grasp at information to help me along. I am 43 years old, an Army medic, and did a tour of Iraq 2007 to 2008. I came home and began having all kinds of problems. I was dealing with hyper vigilance, nightmares, paranoia and depression… Your story gives me hope about returning to society and being successful…”
Time and again throughout the event, Vietnam veterans thanked Sgt. Hack for his inspirational story, which became his most memorable and meaningful moments of the event. Sarge was honored to meet so many fellow vets and was truly grateful to know that his book has had such a positive impact on so many.
